Dark Circles Treatment (Tear Trough)
WHAT ARE DARK EYE CIRCLES AND WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THEM?
Dark circles beneath the eyes impart a tired, unhealthy appearance on one’s face. Genetic factors often play a role in dark circles under the eye. Some people simply have excess pigment under their eyes, which creates a darkened, fatigued look. Bags can develop under the eyes of adults at any age.
Dark circles are caused by a relative depression beneath the eyes that gather shadows from overhanging bags. The depression nearest the nose is called the “tear trough” because tears would follow the depression downwards. Sometimes the tear trough is mild and fillers can be used to provide a temporary solution to this problem.
If the dark circles are too pronounced, then Dr. Stout will do a procedure to fill the depression with nearby fatty tissue to provide a more permanent solution. The lower lid bags are made up of fat and provide a nearby source to fill in the tear trough. This is called fat repositioning, a procedure which simultaneously fills in the depression that cause dark circles and reduces the overlying bags by removing the bulky fat causing them. Dr. Stout will carefully analyze your condition and recommend an appropriate course of treatment.
I AM INTERESTED. HOW SHOULD I PROCEED?
Dr. Stout’s goal during the consultation is to provide the patient with information and teach them as much as possible. He begins by listening and will ask the patient what they would like to discuss and what their goals are. The patient’s input is very important. This allows Dr. Stout to work together with the patient through the decision-making process and establish a plan based upon their goals. He believes that knowledge is empowering as it enables his patients to make decisions with confidence and makes them a better partner in the entire process.
Dr. Stout is happy to have the patient bring a family member or friend to the consultation to ask questions and listen. He encourages patients to bring up any concerns that they may have. His consultations are designed to understand each patient’s situation, teach them and give them honest advice so they leave with useful knowledge with which to consider their options.
If you are considering this procedure, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stout.
