Botox
WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botox reduces the appearance of some wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. It achieves this effect by applying small doses of neurotoxins and interrupting the muscles’ ability to receive signals from the brain.
The results of Botox treatment may resemble those of other minimally invasive procedures, but because of its nature, Botox should be administered by an experienced cosmetic surgeon who has thoroughly studied your case and has developed a custom course of treatment.
DOES BOTOX WORK FOR ALL WRINKLES AND LINES?
No. Botox is only effective against certain kinds of wrinkles caused by aging. Among these are the most common aging-related wrinkles and lines, including forehead creases, laugh lines, and crows’ feet.
Wrinkles and lines caused by external factors, including sun damage, are not affected by Botox treatment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM BOTOX TREATMENT?
While Botox treatment is minimally invasive, it is still surgery, and your body will need a week or so to adjust to treatment. During that time, you may experience some mild swelling around the treated area, sometimes accompanied by light bruising. These symptoms generally subside within a day or two.
For the rest of the adjustment period, your facial expressions may be muted the “frozen” appearance for which Botox is commonly known. Popular impressions of Botox treatment often exaggerate this effect, but you should be prepared for something like the effect of the oral anesthetic you receive for dental procedures.
Results of Botox treatment typically last for three to four months. If you choose to repeat your treatment, be sure that your surgeon offers a full consultation before each visit.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR BOTOX TREATMENT?
While Botox is safe when administered by qualified surgeons, patients can avoid complications by refraining from blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medications and supplements (including aspirin) during the week before treatment. Abstaining from alcohol is also recommended before your visit. These steps help to minimize the risk of bruising around the treated areas.
HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR TREATED AREAS?
As with other facial procedures, including dermal fillers, patients should give the treated area a chance to recover. It is recommended that patients avoid strenuous activity, including exercise or even lifting heavy objects, for 24 hours after Botox treatments. Depending on the patient, Dr. Stout may have additional post-procedure guidelines to follow.
I AM INTERESTED. HOW SHOULD I PROCEED?
Dr. Stout’s goal during the consultation is to provide the patient with information and teach them as much as possible. He begins by listening and will ask the patient what they would like to discuss and what their goals are. The patient’s input is very important. This allows Dr. Stout to work together with the patient through the decision-making process and establish a plan based upon their goals. He believes that knowledge is empowering as it enables his patients to make decisions with confidence and makes them a better partner in the entire process.
Our treatments are designed to provide patients with rejuvenated looks, using a common-sense philosophy that always focuses on what’s best for the individual patient first.
